Bairns Lose The Battle In The Mud!!!

Bairnfica 2 v 6 Airdrie Thistle

Falkirk lost the battle in what can only be described as dreadful conditions.

A poor start from the men in blue meant they found themselves 2-0 down after only 15 minutes. Falkirk then dug in and managed to get one back through Colin Nicholson which was well deserved.

After the restart we saw the long awaited return of one of clubs most prolific goal scorers Stuart Lawson, "Stenny" got himself on the score sheet as the bairns battled away bravely but it turned out to be no more than a consolation as Airdrie scored no less than 3 goals in the last 10 minutes.

Next week we are up against Sparta Jag and I am sure we will be looking to get our league campaign back on track.

Fica Made To Fight For Win

Bairnfica 3 v 2 Pie & Bovril

The game promised goals after previous high scoring encounters and today was no exception.

Captain, Steven Hoggan won the toss and elected to take the kick off.  Chris Baty passed the ball to William Risk and with 2 seconds on the clock he shot from the halfway line and narrowly missed.

With 3 minutes on the clock and after sustained pressure from us, we took the lead through Colin Nicolson.  He received a pass from the midfield and took in into the box before unleashing a shot that left the keeper helpless.

For the next 10 minutes we were playing some good stuff and could have went further ahead, with a few shots narrowly missing the target by Chris Baty and William Risk.

With 22 minutes on the clock and after a period of pressure from the Pie & Bovril attackers, we doubled our lead.  A throw-in from the left by David Cowan was received by Brian Morris, who took on 3 players with his silky skills before passing to Colin Nicolson to ram the ball home from 12 yards to get his and our second goal.

We seemed to take our foot off the gas at this point and let P&B come more and more into it.  With 7 minutes left of the first half, a ball was played through and wasn't cleared.  The P&B attacker took a pass and put it into the net.

Halftime - Bairnfica 2 v 1 Pie & Bovril

During the interval, goalkeeper Freddie Mack was substituted and replaced by Scott Neary.

The second half was relatively even in terms of chances for both teams, with P&B taking a controlling role in midfield at times.  With that though, we had a couple of chances to make the game safe, but failed to turn the chances into goals.

With 60 minutes on the clock, Stuart MacDonald was replaced by Andy Simpson.

In the 65th minute, we increased our lead in farcical fashion.  The ball was played long to William Risk, who outstripped the P&B defence before playing in a ball.  Colin Nicolson took a shot which was blocked and as the P&B defender tried to clear the ball, he knocked it into his own net to make it 3-1 to us.

This actually seemed to spur Pie & Bovril on and they came at us in waves and waves of attacks.  With 68 minutes gone Paul Lawson was replaced by James Duffie

The changes seemed to stem the flow of attacks from P&B, but in the 75th minute, a suspiciously offside goal was given by the referee for P&B, which made the score line read Bairnfica 3 Pie and Bovril 2.

The last 15 minutes were pretty nerve-racking for both team managers with both teams hitting the bar, through Simpson for us and Flowers for P&B, but we held out to record our third victory on the trot and book a place in the semi-final of the cup and a game against either Hibeerinan or Beechwood.

The next game takes place next Sunday 23 November when Airdrie Thistle entertain us in the SSFL game 5 in Airdrie.

Lions Tamed By Bairns

Bairnfica 3 v 1 Livingston

Once again the weather was shocking for one of our games.  This time however we managed to get through the 90 minutes.

The wind and rain made in almost impossible to play any sort of decent football for both teams.

Livi won the toss and surprisingly decided to shoot into the wind in the first half.  With the wind behind us, we tried to use it to our advantage and attempt long ranged shots, with little effect.  When we started to play our passing game, things worked better and we were rewarded in the 30th minute when William Risk was played through and he rammed the ball home from 15 yards.

The game became a bit scrappy after that with both teams getting bogged down in the midfield.

Halftime - Bairnfica 1 v 0 Livingston

During the break, Callum Hunter was replaced by Stuart MacDonald.  Within 1 minute of the restart we almost doubled our lead, with David Cowan's effort being saved by the keeper.

After 55 minutes, Paul Lawson and Brian Morris were replaced by Andrew Simpson and Callum Campbell respectively.  Within 5 minutes, we went 2-0 up.  Chris Baty winning the ball in midfield and playing a defence splitting pass through to William Risk and he knocked the ball passed the helpless keeper.

The 3rd wasn't long in coming, with a corner being put in by Steven Jardine, the ball fell to Colin Nicolson and he volleyed from the edge of the box into the net.

We took control from here and created a couple of efforts on goal, which the keeper done well to keep out.  There was also an effort that hit the bar, by the man Risky, looking for his hat-trick..

Against the run of play, Livi scored.  This seemed to spur them on and a with 20 minutes remaining, they hit the bar.

Steven Jardine was then replaced by Roddy Campbell in the last of the substitutions.

The game was played out, with both teams content to knock the ball about.

Final Score - Bairnfica 3 v 1 Livingston

Nicky Nicks It For Bairns

Beechwood 3 v 4 Bairnfica

Thanks to a late strike from Colin Nicolson, we won a very entertaining game at Borestone Primary in Stirling by 4 goals to 3.

There was always going to be goals in this one, as there had 38 shared between both teams last season and this game was no exception.

Straight from kick-off we were on the attack, with David Cowan and William Risk causing all sorts of problems to the Beechwood defence with their electric pace.

With 3 minutes on the clock, Risk was sent clear and his pace took him past the Beechwood defence and he released an unstoppable shot into the corner of the net.

Again we attacked, looking for a second to deflate the Beechwood challenge.  It wasn't long in coming when again Risk outstripped the Beechwood defence and scored with a great shot.

At this point, Beechwood came more into the game and with their first real attempt on goal, scored with our defence unable to clear their lines.  This seemed to spur them on and they equalised with 10 minutes left to halftime.  The player who scored it was at least 2 yards offside, but the referee let play go on.

With the score 2-2 and us feeling aggrieved, we went for the jugular.  Nicolson passed up a good chance to put us 3-2 up when sent clean through.

With a few minutes left in the first half, we were awarded a free kick deep in our own half.  Paul Lawson hit a perfect diagonal ball which landed at the feet of Cowan and he prodded the ball home from 10 yards to the delight of manager Deryk Wilson.

Halftime - Beechwood 2 v 3 Bairnfica

The second half started with us on the attack with a couple of chances falling to the strikers.

Against the run of play Beechwood equalised for the second time.  A ball was flighted into our box and a Beechwood attacker took a kick at the ball.  It sliced off the side of his foot and looped over the top of Freddie Mack in goal.

With this renewed vigour, Beechwood took a bit of a hold on the game at that point and hit the bar, as well as having a few near misses, most notably a ball being knocked through and while Mack in goal came out to meet the ball, it was flicked over him, with Stuart MacDonald clearing off the line.

EDITED - Beechwood were awarded a penalty with 20 minutes to go after Freddie Mack upended the Beechwood striker.  After the striker dusted himself down, he stepped up and hit the ball towards goal, with "Super" Mack saving his 3rd penalty in succession, to the delight of all of the Bairnfica players.  EDITED

With 9 minutes remaining the deciding goal was scored.  Excellent work down the right hand side, saw a pass made to Risk.  He took the ball to the bye line and turned back inside, before flighting in a tantalising ball with the outside of his right foot, which was met by the EAR of Nicolson, with the ball looping into the net, making the score line 4-3 to us.

The referee blew his whistle, to the delight of all those of a Bairnfica persuasion.

Next up is the 3rd game of the Interdivisional Cup, when we take on Queens Park at Cowglen Sports Club in Glasgow on Sunday 10 November with a 12pm kick off.

Bairnfica Line-Up:

Mack (GK), P. Lawson (C. Campbell 72), S. Hoggan, Lapsley, Morris, Duffie (MacDonald 65), Jardine, Baty, Cowan, Nicolson, Risk.

Sub not used - Wilson

Man of the Match - Chris Baty

Honours Even In Tough Encounter

Bairnfica 2 v 2 St Mirrenoff

The first league game of the season saw Bairnfica take on a St Mirrenoff side who had won all three of their cup matches, a stark contrast to that of the men in navy blue. To make matters worse, Fica had three call offs on the day leaving a threadbare squad to compete.

From kick off Bairnfica looked the livelier of the two teams, with quality in passing and movement showing throughout the team. Wave after wave of attacks came through from the home side, and it was only a matter of time for the deadlock to be broken when Wildridge picked up the ball at the edge of the box to send the ball into the top corner.

Fica chose not to rest on the one goal advantage and continued with their attacking display, some of the best they have shown at this early stage of the season. Chances fell to Hoggan, Cowan and Wildridge, however it was Risk who doubled the advantage after a well worked move saw Cowan send over a tantalizing cross for Risk to ghost in at the back post and head into the bottom corner.

2-0 and cruising, the home side carried on with the same style of play. A rare attack for St Mirrenoff saw Mack pull off a remarkable save from a header that looked destined to nestle in the back of the net. Other than this, the defence looked comfortable controlling anything that came in their proximity.

One notable flashpoint in the first half saw L. Hoggan receive a booking, some maybe thought it should have been more, for nothing less than a horrendous challenge clipping the Saints defender’s heels deliberately.

Half time: Bairnfica 2 – 0 St Mirrenoff

No changes at half time, Fica looked to build upon the lead that they had merited for their first half display. St Mirrenoff, however, had other plans and looked rejuvenated after the break, getting in and around the home side, making life difficult for them.

With the Saints piling on the pressure, the Bairnfica were finding it hard to get out of their own half, eventually leading to St Mirrenoff pulling a goal back when a shot from the left side left Mack unsighted.

Changes were made with Jardine and Lapsley being replaced by Lawson and Wilson respectively. The away team, with their added belief, maintained their pressure and it was them who had chance after chance, but the resilience of the defence added to the excellent display of Mack proved to be up to anything that came their way.

A breakaway from a St Mirrenoff corner saw Bairnfica with a 3 on 2 opportunity, with Risk, S. Hoggan and Wildridge all attacking, however it came to nothing and the Saints gained possession again.

With only 10 minutes remaining, the away side were awarded a penalty, as Morris handled the ball on the line, which also resulted in a red card for the left back stalwart. The spot kick was then magnificently saved by Mack in goals. It really looked like it wasn’t going to be St Mirrenoff’s day. However in injury time a ball was collected on the edge of the box by Mack, although the referee deemed the goalkeeper to be outside his box and the number 1 was duly booked. Up stepped Wilson of the away side to stroke a top class free-kick right into the top corner, leaving everyone helpless.

This was the last kick of the ball and the game was brought to a close. Next up for Bairnfica is an away trip to the seaside, where they take on The New Inn at St Andrews in the Scottish Cup.

Full time: Bairnfica 2 – 2 St Mirrenoff

Bairnfica: Mack, C. Campbell, Morris, Duffie, Lapsley (Wilson), S. Hoggan, Cowan, Jardine (P. Lawson), L. Hoggan, Risk, Wildridge.

MOTM: Mack
Goalscorer: Wildridge, Risk
Yellow Card: L. Hoggan, Mack
Red Card: Morris

Brave "Fica" Lose Out In Seven Goal Thriller

FCBraes04 4 v Bairnfica 3

Despite a late onslaught from brave “Fica”, Braes came out victors in this enthralling encounter.

The game was pretty even for the first 5 minutes, but Braes took the game to Bairnfica after that.  After 15 minutes, the deadlock was broken with James Scott scoring the games opener to make it 1-0 to Braes.

There were a few “meaty” challenges being put in by both teams, with the referee needing to keep his wits about him, none moreso than after 25 minutes.  The “Fica” rearguard failed to clear up after a Braes attack, with Riddoch making a lunging tackle on “Fica’s” Neary.  Neary felt aggrieved at the tackle a pushed Riddoch in the back, with Riddoch retaliating in an aggressive manner.  To be fair to the ref, he had a word with both players for their reactions and booked Riddoch for the initial tackle.

Bairnfica came more into the game after that and more than matched their opponents, whilst testing the goalkeeper on 2 occasions.

After 30 minutes Braes’ Scott made the score line 2-0, somewhat against the run of play.  To be fair to the “Fica” players they never let their heads go down and finished the half off strongly.

Half Time – FCBraes04 2 v Bairnfica AFC 0

Bairnfica started the second half the same way they finished the first, on the attack.  Whilst “Fica” were on the attack, Braes broke away up the park and Scott got the game and his 3rd goal to make the score 3-0.  Freddie Mack, in goal for Bairnfica made his best attempts to stop the striker, but a niggling injury to his leg made his attempts limited.

On the hour mark Braes’ Buchanan made the score line 4-0, with the “Fica” supporters looking on in disbelief.  To be fair, the score line didn’t really reflect the match up until then, however Braes did deserve their lead.

After the 4th goal went in, Bairnfica manager Wilson substituted L. Hoggan and replaced him with striker Nicolson.  Five minutes later, S. Lawson was replaced by new signing Robbie Wildridge.  These 2 substitutions freshened things up for “Fica”.  With 25 minutes remaining Wildridge took the ball from midfield and played it up field, he took the knock back from Cowan and powered an unstoppable 25 yard effort past the helpless Braes keeper.

This seemed to spur the Bairnfica players on and with 18 minutes left and the Braes defence being bombarded with attack after attack, Braes’ MacKenzie knocked a harmless looking ball past his goalkeeper to make the score line 4-2.

The nerves showed in the demeanours of all of the Braes players, with ball after ball being kicked anywhere, just to clear it.  This encouragement spurred “Fica” on further and with 10 minutes remaining, Jardine picked up a ball 20 yards out and rattled a shot past Watson in the Braes goal to make the score line read 4-3 to Braes.

The last 10 minutes were all Bairnfica with Braes chasing shadows.  However “Fica” had left themselves an uphill battle after going 4-0 down.

The game finished with every player on the park knowing they had been involved in a thriller.
